District Parent Advisory Council (DPAC)
Overview
The District Parent Advisory Committee (DPAC) is a group of parent leaders who work together to advise the district's School Board of Education on the needs of students. This committee plays a crucial role in shaping and reviewing key district plans, including the Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP). As Title I law requires, parents are also involved in reviewing and improving the district’s Parent and Family Engagement Policy. DPAC combines these important responsibilities to ensure parents have a voice. Meeting agendas and minutes are made available online for easy access.
Membership
Each school that receives Title I funds invites three parents who represent the diversity of the student body to join the DPAC. These parents are asked to commit to attending scheduled DPAC meetings throughout the year. DPAC representatives serve as representatives for their school communities by:
- Regularly attending meetings.
- Providing input on discussions and decisions.
- Taking on leadership roles to share important updates with other parents during school Title I Parent Meetings.
DPAC representatives also act as a bridge between the committee and their school’s School Site Council (SSC), ensuring communication flows both ways.
Responsibilities
The DPAC’s role is to support coordination and collaboration between parents, staff, and the community regarding Title I programs. The committee provides parents with information, training, and opportunities for involvement. Key activities include:
- Offering feedback on and reviewing the district’s LCAP Plan.
- Review and update the district’s Title I Parent and Family Engagement Policy as needed.
By participating in the DPAC, parents can help ensure that all students have the support they need to succeed.
